Farmer Connection
Growing Trust Through Traceability
NRSP APCL currently works with more than 6,000 smallholder farmers—those cultivating less than 12.5 acres—from sowing to harvest. Through NRSP, our holding company, we promote responsible farming that starts with soil and water testing. Farmers receive advice based on their land’s needs, including guidance on applying the right amount of fertilizer, using biochar, reducing flood irrigation where possible and choosing approved insecticides and pesticides. We also encourage the use of farm machinery for cultivation and discourage crop burning to help protect the climate.
NRSP and APCL staff visit farmers’ fields alongside agriculture experts and stay connected throughout the growing season. This support helps farmers improve soil health and adopt regenerative agriculture practices. It can also support efforts to reduce pesticide use where appropriate and produce pesticide-free products. Careful growing, harvesting and storage practices help reduce the risk of aflatoxin contamination.
At harvest, farmers can choose to sell their produce at prevailing market rates or store it and sell later. APCL provides warehousing services in Hafizabad and Kamoke, giving farmers greater flexibility over when to sell. All transactions with farmers are made through formal banking channels. Product acceptance is based on an independent laboratory report, prepared using duly calibrated equipment and supervised by trained staff. Farmers have the right to access their reports. By procuring directly from farmers, APCL gains access to fresh, healthy grains while providing farmers with a route to market.
APCL’s Farmer Facilitation Centre serves as an integrator and one-stop shop, connecting farmers with agricultural advice, loan-processing support, electronic warehouse receipts, farm machinery service providers, reputable input suppliers, banks, development finance institutions and government departments. NRSP APCL is also registered as a seed producer and importer and aims to provide certified, climate-resilient seed varieties. Annual workshops bring farmers together to share knowledge and learn about improved practices.
Higher yields and incomes for connected farmers
Two independent assessments—conducted by EY in 2019 and Semiotics in 2024—reported that farmers connected with NRSP and APCL had higher yields and incomes than their counterparts following conventional systems. From soil testing to harvest, storage and sale, NRSP APCL works to help farmers make informed choices and build stronger, more resilient livelihoods.
